STEEPLECHASE

Ansel Adams has been quoted as saying "sometimes I get to places just when God's ready to have somebody click the shutter".

The Optometrist office called to let me know that my glasses were ready. I planned to leave work in time to pick them up and made it to their location about four minutes before they closed. After a search for the glasses it was determined that there was an apparent mix up and that my glasses were in fact not ready. I indicated it wasn't a problem but was disappointed that I made the trip seemingly without reason.

I hadn't really noticed the heavy fog on the way to the Optometrist office or as I drove home. I turned the corner and off to the right I saw the three steeples in the fog. If snow is my favorite backdrop then fog is my next favorite. As quickly as I saw the picture I knew the feelings that would follow -- the bother of turning around, getting my camera out, finding a place to take the picture and every other reason to not take the picture. I've learned to put those thoughts aside as they are the reason some stunning pictures reside only in my memory. I made the turn at the next intersection and doubled back, found my spot and started snapping pictures.

My steeplechase wasn't without reason.

"I sing because I'm happy. I sing because I'm free.
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me."

- Civilla D. Martin, His Eye is on the Sparrow
