SHATTO

A visit to the Shatto Dairy Farm yielded this weeks picture (only I would visit a dairy and bring back a photo of a spiral staircase).

Shatto (the family name) is a family owned and operated dairy near Cameron, Missouri. They offer everything in the milk (skim, 2%, whole, flavored), butter and cheese line. If you are looking for a 'cow to bottled product' educational tour this is the place.

The Shatto Dairy brought back memories when Laesche Dairy delivered milk to our home in Illinois. Once or twice a week the milk man delivered eight 1/2 gallon glass bottles placing them in two milk boxes by our back door. One of my 'assigned chores' was to bring the milk in early in the morning. Now I suspect that I did that at the crack of 6:00 am. Doesn't seem so bad when I learned that the Shatto Dairy milks their cows every day at 2:00 am and 2:00 pm. The dairy job benefits include an 'outdoor adventure' (seven days a week), standing inches away from what cows do and a weeks vacation every year. Click on the picture above for a view of the '12 cows at a time' milking station.

"All the really good ideas I ever had came to me while I was milking a cow."
