Silver Dollar City has been busy sprucing up the park and getting ready for their 2010 season and 50th Anniversary Celebration. Opening day is March 18th. They have taken down the winter foliage (or lack thereof) and put up the lush green spring backdrops. They're mending fences and giving the park a good cleaning to be ready for the first guests of 2010.

Pictured above is the very real Culinary & Craft School which opened in 2008 (located back by the Red Gold Heritage Hall) and the subject of this week's photo editing (or what my Mom likes to call "trickery -- just plain trickery"). It's one of my favorite places to visit when in the park. You can enjoy a lemonade and sit in one of the rockers around the porch (let the kids ride Powder Keg and Wildfire). Inside the building you can view some of the very best craftsmanship from the glass chandelier, pottery, iron work and wood carving (just to name a few). From time to time we enjoy the culinary cooking classes (you get to taste the fruits of your labor -- even if you just watched).

I can hear the banjo tuning up and detect a faint scent of Bar-B-Que on the grill. It's going to be a great year!

"You always get a special kick on opening day, no matter how many you go through. You look forward to it like a birthday party when you're a kid. You think something wonderful is going to happen."
