When at Silver Dollar City I can usually be found warming the rock wall or a timber bench at the McHaffie Cabin. The Pickers paparazzi of sorts, my camera is at the ready. I'm there to enjoy the music and humor of the Homestead Pickers.

One morning I was trying out a couple of new cameras in addition to snapping a few pictures with an old favorite. On his way back to the cabin for their next set, Greg Bailey (pictured above) walked past and casually commented "you sure have a lot of camera's." I was caught off my guard -- unable to put forth a riposte -- my only response was a wry smile.

It was some two months later as I was working on this picture when it hit me -- 'heyyyyy - he sure has a lot of instruments'! And so it is. Greg is a master of the fiddle, mandolin, dobro, banjo and no doubt a host of other instruments.

The Homestead Pickers entertain from the moment they walk out onto the front porch of the McHaffie cabin to the last note. In between their music they revel in their mastery of the english vocabulary. They like to catch hold of some word or phrase -- give it a good linguistic thrashing right before your ears -- then take it out back, write a song about it and put it on next years CD.

If that were me -- all I'd have is a CD full of 'wry smiles'.
